And finally....

In 1981 a new club was formed in Dore called Porter Football Club. It was established by Ray Clifford and a couple of devoted parents who wanted to involved Dore youngsters in their own football team. Many of the first club members were cub scouts from Dore's 267th Sheffield Scout Group where Ray was at that time a cub scout leader. They took their name from the Scout District the cub pack was in (a triangular area of Sheffield between the rivers Porter and Sheaf). One of the first teams to be formed had a youngster playing for them called Robert Beaumont who later signed professional forms with Sheffield Wednesday.

Today Porter F.C. train at the HSBC ground on Limb Lane and play many home games on the Ash House Lane pitches. They have a range of teams from under 10s through to over 18s who play in the Sheffield and District Junior Sunday Leagues. Many young Dore-ites are members of this club.

In the early 1990s the name Dore Football Club reappeared as the name of an under-11 team that played in the Sheffield Trophy Central League. The club was formed by Roger Swift, a well known local solicitor. For several years Roger and other keen dads could be seen every Saturday morning on Dore Rec. tutoring any keen boy to improve his football skills. These 'reccies' were the basis of Dore Football Club Mark 2. They used Dore Junior School playing field as their home ground. Unfortunately this club lasted for only a few years.

It is perhaps fitting to conclude this collection by quoting the Aim of Porter F.C. as given on their web-site.

They aim to: 'develop and encourage participation in football in an atmosphere of good sportsmanship and fellowship among players and parents as well as with teams against whom the club competes.'

Football in Dore has had a long and illustrious history. It looks sets to continue to give many more years of enjoyment.
