Coronavirus - Local Information
The situation is changing rapidly and so this page is updated daily. If you find a link which is broken or otherwise unavailable, please email editor@doretodoor.co.uk and we will do our best to bring it up to date.
If you're classed as vulnerable or have an illness which is classed as high risk to COVID-19, you can register through gov.uk with your details. You’ll be able to ask for help getting deliveries of essential supplies like food. You will need your NHS number, which you can find on any letter the NHS has sent you, or on one of your prescription receipts. You can find more information about this by following this link. You can register for yourself or someone else.
On 20th March it was announced that all pubs, bars, restaurants and cafes must close with immediate effect. They will be permitted to continue providing takeaway food, but whether they do or not depends on the owners who will have to consider the risks to their staff and the stability of their own supply chains. All such businesses in the list below will be contacted and those which are closed, or are intending to close completely will be removed from the list. Those who confirm that they are continuing to provide takeaways and/or deliveries will be shown in bold until they've all been contacted.
Public Transport: The M17 bus from Dore to Jordanthorpe will be running a Saturday service with effect from 21st March, except for Sunday when there is no service. The 81 service from Dore is scheduled to be every 30 minutes during the daytime. The 97/98 services from Totley, 24 from Bradway and 76/76a from Lowedges will also be going to a Saturday service all week. Click here to see the latest on Travel South Yorkshire's website. As to trains from Dore & Totley, from Monday 23rd March there will be no East Midlands trains on the Hope Valley route. TransPennine are reducing to a two-hourly service. At present, Northern are intending to continue the normal hourly service. There should be a stopping train to Manchester every hour, with a fast train every second hour.
For NHS advice on dealing with coronavirus, click here. This is the main NHS page with much useful information about the disease. It is updated daily as new information becomes available. You can use this site to get an isolation note for your employer if you have to self-isolate because someone in your household is unwell. You don't have to go to your GP for a sick note.
For the government response to the pandemic, click here. The government has also issued guidance on social distancing for everyone in the UK. Please take the time to read this page. There are links there with extra advice for businesses, vulnerable people (and explaining who is vulnerable). Sheffield City Council have a webpage here which gives information about their services and how they are handling things such as waste collection, school closures and business support. You can enter your email address on this page to receive updates. The council has now pledged that no council tenant will lose their home as a consequence of coronavirus. They have just announced a phone service to help the over-70s with food, gas, electric, medications etc. - 0114 205 7120. Children's play areas in council parks are now closed, though green spaces are still open. Green bin collections have been suspended until further notice. All face-to-face council offices are now closed.
Age UK Sheffield have placed details of their services and measures they are taking on their website. Click here to access these.
There is a good deal of false information on the internet, particularly on social media. Please do not repost health advice from vague or unknown sources. Gargling with salt water will not help you. Turning over the change in your pockets whilst staring at the full moon will not help you. We all want to help each other, but reposting rubbish like this blurs the view of those who are looking for reliable information. Leave expert advice to those qualified to give it.
If you are a Facebook user, there is a coronavirus discussion group called S17 COVID-19 Community Support Group. Over 1600 local people already in Dore, Totley and Bradway, all willing to help. Reach out to them if you need help with shopping, dog walking or you just want to hear a friendly voice on the phone. If you're not a Facebook user, wait for a card to come through your letterbox. This should have the name and phone number of someone in this group that you can contact.

Statistics on the virus are available from Public Health England here. As of Wednesday 25th March, there were 240 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Sheffield. Up 66 in the last 24 hours, which was up 44 from the day before. In the list of 147 local authorities in England, Sheffield holds a dishonourable fifth place in the number of cases, highest in the north. Social distancing is not a summer game; do it, do it properly and make sure that your household follows the guidelines too.
You do not know best. Even the experts who know the most admit that they don't know enough. Don't drive miles into the countryside for your daily exercise; walk, run or cycle, but start and finish at your own front door. Don't think it's alright - it isn't. Don't think no one will notice - they do. Don't think that it won't make any difference - it will.
