The Proclamation of Accession of Queen Elizabeth 2nd had to be given in London, Cardiff, Belfast and Edinburgh. Both Howard and I went, with all the pupils from our respective schools, to stand outside Cardiff City hall to hear the Proclamation given by the Lord Mayor. Although it was a solemn occasion, the abiding memory of it of both of us is the fact that the Lord Mayor, when speaking, dropped all his aitches, which amused us all very much.
